A 24 year old Owen Sound man is in police custody following an assault that took place in the downtown core Monday evening.
Shortly after 9:00 PM the Owen Sound Police Service received a 911 call from a woman reporting that she had been assaulted. The call was disconnected prior to further information being obtained and police were dispatched to the area. Several people had witnessed a man assaulting a woman and came forward to assist the police in locating the couple. One witness had attempted to intervene in the assault and was also assaulted by the man.
The couple was located at a residence in the 900 block of 2 nd Avenue West. The man was arrested brought to the station. It was determined that he was on prior release conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol and also that he was not to be in contact with the 19 year old female victim.
The man will appear in court later this morning. He faces two charges of assault, one charge of failing to comply with an undertaking and three charges of failing to comply with a recognizance.
Neither of the victims was seriously injured during the assault.
