(HURON EAST, ON) – A 42-year-old man from Huron East remains in police custody following an impaired driving collision that took place over the weekend.
On Saturday, February 11, 2017 just after 12:00 noon officers from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were dispatched to a report of a single motor vehicle crash that had just occurred on St. Michael’s Road near Livingston Line. A witness observed a Chevrolet Silverado leave the roadway and roll several times before it came to a rest in a farmer’s field. The witness then watched as the driver exited the truck and walked away from the scene to a nearby residence. Once at the residence the driver made his way into the unoccupied home.
Approximately 20 minutes later Huron OPP officers attended the residence and located the driver of the crashed pickup inside the home. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the male to be displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. At that point the male was informed he was going to be placed under arrest for impaired driving. The male immediately tried to flee and he began to resist the officer’s efforts to arrest him. After a short struggle the male was subdued and taken into custody.
He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both of his samples registered above the legal limit.
As a result, Terry DOW, 42 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, Resist Peace Officer and Unlawfully in a Dwelling House. He remains in custody with an upcoming court appearance. His motor vehicle has been impounded and he has been served with an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension.
