(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 215 calls for service during the previous week, including animals left in hot vehicles, family disputes and traffic complaints.
Traffic Enforcement
With schools out and summer traffic heavier on area roads, the Renfrew OPP are focusing their enforcement on drivers who are speeding, not wearing seatbelts, impaired by drugs or alcohol and driving while using handheld devices and distracted. The strict enforcement began on June 26 until July 1 as motorists become accustomed to heavier traffic. Choosing to ignore those rules is resulting in the majority of deaths on Ontario roads. Slow down, buckle up, drive sober and put the phone and other distractions down. Concentrate on the important task at hand, driving.
Bike Rodeo
The Renfrew OPP is hosting a Bike Rodeo on Saturday July 4 at Ma-te-Way Park in Renfrew. The event runs from 10 am until 2 pm in the parking lot. This is a free event and is open to all ages. Please bring your bike and helmet.

Don’t Leave Pets in Vehicles
With warmer weather here, pet owners are encouraged to leave their pets at home. Parked cars quickly reach deadly temperatures for animals that don’t have the same ability to deal with rising temperatures that humans can withstand. Citizens who spot a dog or animal in a hot parked car are encouraged to report the licence plate and description of the vehicle to the store so an announcement can be made inside the store. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) has also set up a hotline to report animals in hot cars. Call them at 310-SPCA or 310-7722 anywhere in Ontario. For more information go to www.nohotpets.ca If the animal appears to be in distress call the SPCA at 310-7722 or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
