Regional Police launch Police Week 2015 with Open House at Headquarters

Waterloo Region ON – Chief Bryan Larkin and the members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service are pleased to invite the community to help celebrate the kick off to Police Week activities with an Open House at Police Headquarters, Saturday May 9, 2015 from 10am to 3pm.

“Open House has become a tradition for our Service and in our community, and one we look forward to each year,” said Chief Larkin. “It’s a special day when families can enjoy a variety of activities and celebrate along with police members and representatives of numerous community and partner agencies.”

The Police Week theme for this year is Discover Policing. Join us for a closer look and meet many of our members dedicated to public safety for the people of Waterloo Region. Everyone is welcome to celebrate our community with a variety of festivities while enjoying BBQ, entertainment, and special events including:

• Live music performed by police members

• Demonstrations and displays from the Emergency Response Unit, Canine Unit, Traffic, Forensic Identification and Human Resources Branches

• Tours of Headquarters and the Children’s Safety Village

• Diverse community displays

• Ultimate climbing wall, pony rides, face painting, tattoos, puppet show and Tumblebus

Also this year, a special appearance by avid cyclist, WRPS Sergeant Peter Viol, who is taking part in Tour Divide, a 4500km off-road bicycle race that begins in Banff, Alberta and ends in Antelope Wells, New Mexico. Through this ride, he will raise funds for the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre in Kitchener. We hope you will support him with a pledge.

In addition, drop by the HQ cafeteria and choose from our selection of WRPS t-shirts and sweatshirts. Proceeds go to Special Olympics Ontario. A great souvenir of your visit!

Waterloo Regional Police Headquarters is located at 200 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge. Donations of non-perishable foods for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region are welcome.
