Regional Police investigating multiple robberies in Waterloo- appealing for information

Waterloo Region ON – Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service General Division Detectives are investigating four separate person-on-person robberies that have occurred in the north Waterloo area this week:

• Columbia St. and Batavia Place, Waterloo, May 14, 2015 at approximately 2:10am

• Regina St. and Hickory St., Waterloo, May 13, 2015 at approximately 2:50am

• On a trail in the Davenport Road, Waterloo area between Kingscourt Park and Conestoga Mall, May 11, 2015 at approximately 1:15pm

In these incidents, the victims were attacked by a group of males who demanded personal belongings and valuables. Various weapons have been used during the commission of these offences. The victims have sustained non-life threatening injuries consistent with the application of blunt force.

The investigation into a fourth incident is in its early stages and a victim has not yet been identified. It is believed to have occurred overnight on May 14, 2014 in the area of Columbia Street and Phillip Street, Waterloo.

Waterloo Regional Police are concerned that physical violence has accompanied these robberies and urge anyone who is approached not to put their personal safety at risk and to avoid confrontation. Additional safety tips include:

• Be aware of your surroundings when walking in public places

• Remain alert to any suspicious behaviour and report it at once

• Avoid distractions associated with the use of electronic devices

• When possible, walk in pairs or groups and in well-lit areas

• University students are encouraged to use the transportation and foot patrol services available to them when walking to and from campus
