Regional Police arrest Kitchener man in shooting incident

Waterloo Region, ON– Waterloo Regional Police Homicide and General Investigative detectives have arrested and charged a 26 year old Kitchener man in connection with the shooting incident on January 16, 2016.

The victim, 25, (previously reported as 26 years old), a Brampton resident was seated in his vehicle at the car park located at Fountain Street and the 401, in the city of Cambridge. He was shot multiple times while a female passenger in the vehicle was unharmed. He is recovering in hospital after surgery and remains in stable condition.

Hasnain Ali Manji, 33, (previously reported as 26) was arrested at his residence in Kitchener, without incident in the early morning hours. He appeared in court today facing numerous charges including:

· Attempted murder with a firearm x 2,

· Weapons Dangerous and

· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

He was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is Monday January 18, 2016 in courtroom 102, at 85 Frederick Street, Kitchener. Further charges are anticipated.

“Excellent, tenacious and quick work by all involved in this investigation”, said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “These types of incidents cause trepidation within our community. Through hard work and a team effort by several branches with the organization, we have restored a sense of calm.”

Investigators are looking to locate a 1997 Mercedes E32, four door black vehicle, Ontario licence plate BSPL580. It is believed to have damage to the front passenger side. Police are cautioning the public against approaching the vehicle and are asking members of the community to call 911 if the vehicle is located. (sample vehicle photo attached)
