Rebate Scam Alert

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On August 3rd, 2011 at 4:25 pm, the South Bruce OPP received a report of an attempted fraud from a resident of the Municipality of Kincardine. A man phoned to report that a $2,000 Government rebate cheque was being mailed out, once received $100 was to be mailed back. The man further asked that this be kept quiet as not everyone is entitled to the benefit. The call was ended and police were notified. The South Bruce OPP is reminding residents to be cautious with unsolicited phone calls. “If you don’t make the call, how can you be sure the caller is legitimate? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”.
