Rainfall Warning – 90km Wind Gusts Possible

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County

Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County

Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Heavy rainfall will continue until this evening. Rainfall amounts of 45 to 55 millimetres are expected. Other impacts could include pooling of water on roads due to blocked catch basins and storm sewer drains.

Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Rain heavy at times and gusty winds through Thursday.

A strong fall storm will bring rain heavy at times to Southern Ontario today. Latest indications continue to suggest 25 to 40 mm of rain in many areas. Higher amounts of 45 to 55 mm are likely across the Windsor to Toronto to Kingston corridor and rainfall warnings have been issued.

Additionally, strong and gusty southerly winds are forecast to develop this morning over Southwestern Ontario and this afternoon over remaining parts of Southern Ontario. Wind gusts to 70 km/h are likely in most areas. Even stronger winds are likely near the eastern ends of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, where wind gusts of 90 km/h are expected and wind warnings have been issued. Winds will become southwesterly on Thursday as a cold front arrives and strong gusts to 90 km/h are again possible.

These winds may be strong enough to cause some tree damage and local power outages, especially in areas where trees remain in partial to full leaf. Other impacts could include pooling of water on roads due to blocked catch basins and storm sewer drains.

The rain and strong winds will end by Friday as the fall storm moves away into Northern Quebec.
