As a result of concerns by community members reporting an increased observation of drug activity, members of the Community Foot Patrol Unit, with the assistance of members of the Community Oriented Response Unit, executed a two-day project on October 24 and October 25, 2013. Involved members provided an increased police presence in the Dundas Street area as well as two addresses – one on Elizabeth Street and another on Lyle Street.
As a result of this initiative, 15 people were arrested, resulting in 14 criminal charges and six drug related charges being laid. Offences include:
– Possession of a scheduled substance
– Communication for the purpose of prostitution
– Resist arrest
– Escape lawful custody
– Mislead police
– Breach of recognizance/OIC undertaking
– Possession of stolen property (identification from four separate owners).
A team of officers from a patrol section concentrated their efforts in the Dundas Street area between Wellington Street and Egerton Street on October 28 and October 29, 2013, targeting illegal drug activity.
As a result of this initiative, nine people were arrested, resulting in eight criminal charges and two drug charges. $240 worth of drugs and a stolen bicycle were seized.
