Police received a complaint from a Saugeen Shores resident of identity theft and fraud. Someone had opened several accounts with credit card companies and large stores fraudulently in the complainant’s name. The card companies have corrected the fraud so the area person is not out any money. This type of fraud is becoming more prevalent and you need to be very careful with your personal information.
Several ways people can get your information include internet purchases, garbage, phone canvassing and stealing your vehicle ownership and insurance cards from your vehicle. Make sure you are on a secure website on the computer and be cautious and check out the companies you purchase from prior to putting out your credit card number. Never provide personal information over the phone to someone who called you, if it is unsolicited, if you did not ask for the call, hang up. Ensure you shred any papers you are going to throw out that have personal information on them. Always lock your vehicle. “Lock it or Lose it†There are other items of value in your vehicle but the one thing that can cause you the most grief is your ownership.
There are those out there who will try to steal your identity, take whatever precautions you can to discourage them.
Over the past week Saugeen Shores Police officers attended many motor vehicle collisions. When you hear the warnings on the radio for poor roads or you observe them to be in bad shape, stay home if you can, the sun does come out again.

10:06 am police were in the south end of Hwy 21 stopping those who were driving around the road closed sign to drive south on Hwy 21. A vehicle was stopped driving north on the highway toward Port Elgin. The driver was found to be a suspended driver, the vehicle was not insured and the licence plates on the vehicle were not registered to the vehicle. He was charged accordingly. Moral of this story is if you are driving without a licence, without insurance in a vehicle not owned by you don’t break traffic laws.
10:32 am several officers of the Saugeen Shores Police, Fire Dept from Paisley, OPP and ambulance attended to 3 separate motor vehicle collisions along County Rd #3. Several people were transported to hospital with minor injuries and several vehicles required a tow. The weather, road conditions and visibility were all very poor at this time.
12:53 pm police received a report of a fail to remain motor vehicle collision. The complainant is unsure where and when the damage occurred to the rear corner of his vehicle.
3:04 pm police responded to a mischief complaint where a person had the side of his vehicle keyed. It is unknown when or where it occurred.

Several people were charged and some warned about driving on a closed road on County Rd #3 and Hwy #21.
5:40 pm police stopped a vehicle that had traveled north on Hwy 21 while it was closed. The driver was found to be a suspended driver and was charged with both offences. If only this press release had of gone out sooner he may not have been on the closed road.
Driving on a closed road puts your safety in jeopardy and anyone that you may get into an accident with and subsequently police, fire and ambulance that may have to come help you. The road is closed for a reason please respect that and drive safely.
11:18 pm police responded to a bus in the ditch on 28-29 side road. Police retrieved the driver and the vehicle was later pulled out.

10:05 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision single vehicle rollover at Bruce Rd 40 and Side road 13/14. The driver hit a white out and drove up onto a snow bank and rolled his vehicle onto its side. No injuries, moderate damage.
10:34 am a landlord was cleaning up a vacated property and located 4.7 grams of marihuana in a baggie. Police responded and seized the drugs. If you find yourself in a similar position it is better to call police and have us dispose of it that flushing it. If you have left over prescription medications you can call police or attend to any pharmacy to dispose of the product. It is better to get rid of it from your house and it is not good for the environment to flush or throw it away in the garbage.
3:04 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the entrance to Walmart. A vehicle south on Goderich St tried to stop for a stop sign and slid into the intersection striking a vehicle on Lake Ridge Dr.

9:25 am an adult male was observed trying to steal merchandise from Canadian Tire, this was also captured on video. The person did not leave the store with the product but was warned and trespassed from the store.
10:51 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Goderich St near Shoppers Drug Mart. A vehicle was south on Goderich proceeding through the intersection at Tomlinson Drive. Another vehicle was turning south out of the Independent parking lot and sideswiped the south bound vehicle. Both vehicles received minor damage, no injuries, the vehicle turning right was charged with turning not in safety.
1 Feb 2014,
1:19 pm police received a report of a motor vehicle collision that had occurred at Goderich and Pierson St Port Elgin. Police were tied up on several serious accidents at the time so the two exchanged information. One of the vehicles received damage exceeding $1000 and a report was taken later. Police are investigating.
1:39 pm police were investigating several theft reports from several different stores in Southampton. Sisters on Huron, Foodland, Rona, Thorncrest Outfitters and the Southampton Market. Police arrested a 30 year old Saugeen Shores man who is also believed to be responsible for thefts from Sears in Owen Sound. The thefts ranged from a jacket, food, hardware, duvet, usb card readers, lock. Most of the items have been recovered and the accused charged with several counts of theft.
8:23 pm, police received a report of a motor vehicle collision that occurred at 4:40 pm at Stafford and Green St. A vehicle north on Stafford stopped at a stop sign and pulled out but could not see due to the snow banks and was struck by a vehicle east on Green St. No injuries.
