9 Dec 2013,

3:30 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Gustavus and Bricker St Port Elgin where 5 vehicles were involved. A vehicle was stopped at a stop sign Bricker St at Gustavus St northbound. A second vehicle was west bound on Gustavus St. A third vehicle was stopped on Bricker at a stop sign at Gustavus St heading south. Two other involved vehicles were parked in the municipal parking lot at that corner. The northbound Bricker St vehicle proceeded and struck the west bound Gustavus St vehicle. The westbound Gustavus St vehicle then struck the south bound Bricker St vehicle. The northbound Bricker St vehicle then struck the guardrail posts in the parking lot and struck another parked vehicle. One of the guardrails struck another parked vehicle. All but one vehicle had to be towed. No injuries. The northbound Bricker St driver was charged.

10 Dec 2013,

12:40 pm police stopped a vehicle in Southampton for a traffic matter. A strong odour of marihuana led police to discover 1.7 grams of marihuana, .7 grams of Hashish, and 3 Ecstasy pills. A 52 year old Amaranth Township man was charged with possession of the drugs.

11 Dec 2013,

9:06 am police stopped a vehicle in Port Elgin for an expired validation sticker. The driver was a suspended driver and was charged with both infractions and his vehicle was towed.

12:51 pm several Saugeen Shores Police officers and Auxiliary Officers attended to the Shop with a Cop at Rowland’s Independent. All 4 elementary schools in Saugeen Shores participated.

7:59 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Arlington and River St Port Elgin. A northbound Arlington St vehicle was struck by an eastbound River St vehicle that had stopped for the stop sign at Arlington St but proceeded before the way was clear. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged.

The Saugeen Shores Police were conducting an investigation into the trafficking of Chrystal methamphetamine. Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle and found the driver to be a suspended driver without valid automobile insurance. Further investigation found the driver to be in possession of 1.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a further 1 gram of crystal meth was located after the person was arrested. A Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant was granted for the person’s residence and a total of 157.6 grams of marihuana, 26.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 4 Dilaudid tablets and .7 grams of Cocaine were seized. Total street value of the drugs seized is approximately $5,843. Beverly Cummings 54 years of Saugeen Shores faces charges of Possession of Crystal Meth, marihuana and Possession of Crystal Meth for the purposes of Trafficking. She was further charged with driving with no insurance and driving suspended.

9:09 pm police arrested an impaired driver after being observed driving on Goderich St in Port Elgin. At the police office the woman provided breath samples with readings of 220 mgms and 230 mgms. Brenda Brand 64 years of Saugeen Shores faces charges of Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mgms. Her vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

13 Dec 2013,

1:24 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Mill St Port Elgin. A vehicle was pulling away from the curb and was struck by a town plow truck. The driver of the vehicle pulling from the curb was charged with Starting from parked position not in safety and being unlicenced. No injuries.

1:59 pm Saugeen Shores Police conducted a Joint Ride with the three area OPP detachments, Owen Sound Police, Hanover Police and West Grey Police. This cooperation allows for a greater amount of enforcement by using personnel from various services.

7:10 pm, police conducted RIDE in Saugeen Shores. No impaired drivers.

14 Dec 2013,

9:00 am members of the Saugeen Shores Police Service and Auxiliary under the organization and direction of Auxiliary Police Officer Zach Mowbray conducted a “Stuff a Cruiser” food drive for the Salvation Army. The event was held at Rowland’s Independent Grocer. The overwhelming support of the community saw the cruisers stuffed with groceries over and over again. The food drive gathered four pick up truck loads of groceries and over $800 cash for the food bank. Thanks to all involved, thanks to the generosity of the public and thanks to Zach for organizing this event.

12:00 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at County Rd 40 near County Rd #3 where a vehicle lost control heading over the bridge and struck the bridge several times. The vehicle had to be towed, no injuries.
