Happy New Year

31 Dec 2013,

2:10 pm police responded to am motor vehicle collision at County Rd 17 and Concession 8. A vehicle was south on Bruce Rd 17 and crossed the center line causing a northbound vehicle to swerve to avoid a collision and the vehicles sideswiped. No injuries. The driver of the vehicle crossing the center line was charged.

10:19 pm two 18 year old males were charged with having alcohol in an open area and being under 19 years consuming liquor along Victoria St Southampton.

01 Jan 2014,

5:33 am police responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 21 between Southampton and Port Elgin. The driver was transported to the hospital where he was checked out and cleared. The driver was arrested for Impaired Driving and provided readings that were not over 100 mgms. The 19 year old, “Young Driver” was charged with having alcohol in his system and with a 3 day drivers licence suspension.

New Years Eve was relatively quiet in Saugeen Shores.

2 Jan 2014,

The Police Retirees of Ontario run a program called the “Hero Bear” program. On occasion they solicit funds to make these teddy bears. This is a valid program where they provide Teddy bears to officers to give to young children in poor circumstances or as victims.

The travelling public is reminded of the 4 Way Stop at Waterloo and Market St. in Port Elgin. This will take some time getting used to but it also makes you pay attention to changing conditions. Please drive safe.

8:49 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Waterloo and Green St Port Elgin. A vehicle was north on Waterloo St and went through the stop sign at Green St striking a vehicle east on Green St. A passenger in the struck vehicle was injured and transported to hospital by ambulance where she was released with minor injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign.

3 Jan 2014,

2:40 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Bricker and Catherine St Port Elgin. Both vehicles were heavily damaged. A vehicle was east on Catherine St stopped for a stop sign at Bricker St then proceeded before the way was safe and struck a vehicle that was south on Bricker St. Two occupants of the struck vehicle were taken to hospital and released. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged with Failing to Yield to through traffic.

4 Jan 2014,

2:30 pm police attended to a single motor vehicle collision at County 40 and 28-29 side-road. A vehicle east on County 40 lost control in the snow and struck the guard rails. No injuries.
