Press Release – 10 March 2014 to 16 March 2014

12 March 2014 – At 8:00pm, members of Saugeen Shores Police Service attended at Saugeen Memorial Hospital to assist OPP with a violent and uncooperative male. Officers stood-by at the hospital while the male subject was given medical treatment.

13 March 2014 – At 2:06am, a police officer on patrol in Port Elgin stopped a pick-up truck which had a tail light out. The driver was found to have been consuming alcohol.

The driver was given a roadside test and blew a warning. He was issued a 3 day licence suspension.

15 March 2014 – At 11:15am, witnesses observed a vehicle reverse and hit a parked vehicle in a parking lot on Goderich Street. The driver exited his vehicle and looked at the damage and then drove away. The witnesses were able to get a licence plate and notified the owner of the parked vehicle. The incident was reported to police. The driver of the vehicle was located and a male, age 42, from Owen Sound was charged with Fail to Report under the Highway Traffic Act.

R.I.D.E. checks – extra officers were out on patrol completing RIDE checks during the evening and early morning hours of March 15, 16 and 17 in Saugeen Shores. The checks resulted in the apprehension of one driver who was driving with over the legal limit of alcohol and in a separate vehicle a person charged with drug and criminal offences. These RIDE checks are made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

During a RIDE check, at approximately 10:15pm, police stopped a vehicle on Bruce Road #3 in Burgoyne. Officers believed that the driver had consumed alcohol and made a demand for a roadside screening test. A sample was provided and the driver registered a fail. The driver was escorted to the police station where Intoxilyzer tests were conducted. The test resulted in a reading of 130. The legal limit is 80. Robert Clazie, age 25, of Saugeen Shores has been charged with Driving with Over 80mgs, contrary to the Criminal Code. His drivers licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

16 March 2014 – At 12:30am, police attended at a motor vehicle accident on Carlisle Street. It was determined that a pick-up truck which was northbound on Carlisle Street, lost control on the icy road and went into the ditch. The truck rolled over onto its roof. The vehicle was extensively damaged but there were no injuries.

During a RIDE check at approximately 10:00pm, police stopped a vehicle on North Rankin Street in Southampton. Officers noted a strong odour of marihuana in the vehicle. A passenger admitted to possession of marihuana. He was found to have a bag containing approximately 4 grams of marihuana. The male, age 18 yrs, from Saugeen Shores, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Breach of Recognizance and 3 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation. He was held in custody for a Show Cause Hearing.
