Press Release – 28 July 2014 to 03 August 2014

July 28, 2014

3:48am – police received a report about two males searching through a car on Palmerston Street in Southampton. The suspects were scared away prior to police arrival. The owner of the vehicle was notified and nothing had been stolen. Later in the day, police received a complaint about theft from a vehicle on Grosvenor Street. A wallet and cell phone charger were stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

9:36am – police received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle parked on Huron Street blocking a driveway. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen in Southampton earlier in the night. The vehicle had front end damage. A Scenes of Crime officer attended and examined the vehicle for evidence. The vehicle was a grey Toyota Camry. Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation is requested to contact Saugeen Shores Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

Two complaints of mischief to vehicles were received on July 28th. A Ford Mustang convertible on Huron Street was damaged by someone walking on the roof. A Toyota pick-up truck on Wellington Street in Port Elgin was scratched along the passenger side of the vehicle.

11:58 am – Police arrested a 33 yr old male of no fixed address. Information had been received about a male, in possession of a hand gun, staying in a local motel. Police set up observation and arrested the male as he left the motel. He was found to have 5 arrest warrants for failing to appear in court and failing to comply. He was also found in possession of an imitation handgun and a controlled drug. The male was held for a show cause hearing.

July 30, 2014

9:47am – Police received a complaint from a financial business about a fraud. A person had completed a number of empty envelope deposits and defrauded the bank of approximately $1000. A suspect has been identified and the bank and police are gathering evidence with the intent that charges will be laid.

August 1, 2014

4:00pm – Police received a complaint from a resident who was the victim of a fraud. The victim sent approximately $750 via Western Union and has become a victim of a loan scam.

10:20pm – Police were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on Railway Street in Southampton. A vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to have been smoking marijuana. A small amount of marijuana was seized. The driver was charged with Liquor Licence Act and Highway Traffic Act offences.

August 2, 2014

1:15am – Police attended at the Wismer House to deal with a male patron who was refusing to leave the establishment. When asked to leave the male had assaulted a staff member. The male was intoxicated and resisted arrest. A 21 yr old male from Saugeen Shores was charged under the Trespass to Property Act and the Liquor Licence Act.

8:40am – Police attended at Saugeen Bluffs Campground and assisted in the eviction of a camper who had been causing problems overnight. A 24 yr old male from West Perth was charged under the Trespass to Property Act.

9:58am – Police received a complaint about a truck being driven erratically in Port Elgin. An officer located the vehicle on Goderich Street. The driver was given a roadside screening test and failed. John IRVINE, age 49, of Tiverton, was arrested and taken to the police station for Intoxilyzer tests. He was found to be over the legal limit and was charged with Drive Over 80mgs, contrary to the Criminal Code. A passenger in the vehicle was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana).

August 3, 2014

2:26am – A police officer on patrol observed a vehicle disobeying a red light and then speeding on Goderich Street in Port Elgin. The vehicle was stopped and the driver exhibited signs of impairment by alcohol. He was arrested and taken into the police station for breath tests. Nicholas JANZEN, age 26, of Calgary, Alberta was subsequently charged with Drive over 80mgs and Impaired Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.
