Press Release – 27 April 2015 to 3 May 2015

27 April 2015,

12:09 am, police responded to a gas drive off at the Petro Can in Port Elgin. A person filled up his vehicle and told the attendant he had to go home to get his wallet and never returned. The video allowed officers to track down the registered owner and the bill was paid.

10:06 am, police received a report of a vehicle striking a deer on County Road 40 at about 8:45 pm the previous evening.

4:26 pm, police are investigating a report of a back hoe being set on fire in Wilsons Construction yard on Barnes Ave. Anyone with information is asked to call police, Constable Mike Cuillerier 519-832-9200 or Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477.

29 April 2015,

6:50 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Bruce Rd 40 and Side Road 18/19. A pick-up truck was north on Side Road 18/19 and did not stop for the stop sign at Bruce Rd 40. This truck then struck another pick-up truck west on Bruce Rd 40. No injuries. The offending driver was charged with Failing to Stop at the stop sign.

7:38 am police investigated a threatening complaint. A tenant in a rental unit was overheard making threats to cause harm to another person in the same building. A 35 year old Saugeen Shores female was arrested and charged with Threatening and Mischief.

Police are investigating the cutting down of some trees along Miramichi Bay Road that had occurred some days before. The person cutting the trees had been photographed cutting the trees down and has been identified. Police continue to investigate.

Each year we receive similar complaints of people cutting down trees or brush along the lake, generally to get a better view of the lake. If it is not your property you are committing the offence of Mischief and can be charged criminally. I doubt the view is worth the consequence.

11:29 pm police conducted RIDE in Port Elgin, no offenders.

30 April 2015,

12:54 pm police responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Gustavus St. A vehicle was turning into the parking lot of the Queens and was struck by another vehicle traveling west on Gustavus St. No injuries. He driver of the turning vehicle was charged.

5:14 pm police responded to McDonalds Restaurant to a report of a person swearing and acting in a threatening manner. The male left prior to police arrival.

3:14 pm police responded to Walmart to a shoplifting complaint. Once police were called it appeared that the person left the clothing he had put under his shirt and left the store.

1 May 2015,

12:04 pm police responded to a driving complaint in Port Elgin. The vehicle and driver were located and after investigation the 29 year old driver was charged with possession of marihuana and possession of methamphetamine, he was further charged with breaching probation from a previous matter.

5:59 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton. Approximately 80 vehicles were checked with no infractions.

8:32 pm police a vehicle was stopped for a driving infraction. Investigation revealed the female driver had in her possession Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) and crystal methamphetamine and a flick knife. A 23 year old Saugeen Shores female was arrested and charged with 5 counts of possession of controlled substances, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

2 May 2015,

11:29 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision in the Rexall parking lot in Southampton. No injuries.

4:22 pm police received a report of an unlocked bicycle stolen from the Port Elgin tourist camp.

5:17 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton. Approximately 150 vehicles were checked with no alcohol violations.

10:28 pm police received a complaint of someone slashing a vehicle tire in Southampton. Police are investigating and have a suspect.

3 May 2015,

2:03 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Goderich St where a vehicle backed into another. Minor damage report was submitted.

6:16 pm Saugeen Shores Police arrested a 22 year old Saugeen Shores male on the strength of a warrant issued by Hamilton Police. Hamilton Police attended to Port Elgin to return their prisoner to Hamilton court.

7:59 pm police responded to Walmart where a male pushed a cart of items out the front door without paying. When challenged by a store employee the person took the items and ran. Police continue to investigate and are reviewing video footage of the incident.
