9:23 pm, police investigated a grandparent scheme fraud. The scenario is the same, a call goes from a fraudster to a parent or grandparent pretending to be the son or grandson or a lawyer representing them. The person is usually in jail or hurt badly in another country and needs immediate cash to help and they need to keep this a secret from the rest of the family. The requests are for anywhere from $2000 to $5000. and need to be sent right away and usually through money orders or Western Union. This time the fraud was discovered in time and the transfers stopped. Please take the time to talk to your elderly parents about this scheme and keep communication open so they will talk to you and not keep secrets, don’t let them be taken advantage of.
