September 15, 2014

At 11:16am, Saugeen Shores Police, Fire and EMS attended a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Bruce Road #3 and Carlisle Street. A vehicle turning from Carlisle Street onto Bruce Rd #3 was hit by a vehicle that was westbound on Bruce Road #3. The driver and passenger in one of the vehicles had to be extricated by the fire department. Three persons were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the turning vehicle was charged with Fail to Yield contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

September 18, 2014

Police received a complaint about damage to a vehicle. The vehicle, a 2014 Toyota, white in colour, had been parked in a parking lot overnight at 623 Green Street. The vehicle was struck by another vehicle causing damage to the passenger side. The responsible driver did not report the accident. Please contact police or crime stoppers if you have information on this incident.

At 1:34pm, police attended a minor accident on Goderich Street. A vehicle entering Goderich Street from a parking lot struck a southbound vehicle. The driver was charged with Fail to Yield from a Private Drive.

At 4:20pm, police attended a motor vehicle accident on Laird Lane in Southampton. A vehicle southbound on Laird Lane struck a parked vehicle. The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act. There were no injuries but both vehicles required towing.

September 19, 2014

At approximately 1:30pm, police investigated a vehicle parked in a parking lot at Goderich and Gustavus Streets in Port Elgin. A male occupant who had control of the vehicle was found to have been consuming alcohol. He was given a roadside screening test and failed. He was arrested and taken to the police station where breath tests resulted in readings of over the legal limit of alcohol. Terry Louther, age 42 of Durham, ON was charged with Care or Control of a motor vehicle with Over the legal limit of alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence immediately suspended for 90 days.

September 21, 2014

At approximately 2:26am, police were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Maplewood Drive in Port Elgin. A pick-up truck driving on Maplewood Drive at a high rate of speed lost control and went off the road and struck a boat and trailer. The boat and trailer had been parked in a driveway at a private residence. The truck then failed to remain and left the area at a high rate of speed. The driver of the truck returned to the scene a short time later in a different vehicle. Police responding to the initial accident call attempted to stop the truck but the driver refused to stop and fled the area. A police pursuit was initiated but discontinued almost immediately as the fleeing vehicle was disobeying stop signs at a high rate of speed. The police officer was able to identify the vehicle and after further investigation the driver was arrested. A 17 year old youth has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident and Flight while pursued by a Peace Officer, all contrary to the Criminal Code. There were no injuries.

At 6:18pm, Saugeen Shores Police and Fire were dispatched to a fire at the apartment building at 795 Waterloo Street in Port Elgin. Police Officers arrived on the scene and detected smoke in the building and immediately commenced an evacuation of all of the residents. One of the police officers attended at the apartment where the fire was located. He attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher but eventually had to retreat due to heavy smoke. Saugeen Shores Fire Department attended and was able to quickly extinguish the fire and then commence ventilating the building. By 9:00pm, some residents were able to return to their apartments.

There were no injuries but there was extensive damage to the apartment. It was determined that the fire was started by some plastic items which had been left on top of the stove.
