In the early morning hours of February 3rd, police received a complaint about a young girl observed walking along Goderich Street. Police attended and escorted the 15 year old girl home as she was not dressed appropriately for the cold weather.
Police attended at a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Waterloo Street and Biener Drive. A westbound vehicle was inching out into the intersection and was struck by a northbound vehicle. High snow banks at the intersection contributed to the cause of the collision. No injuries.
At approximately 10:00pm, police received a complaint about a suspicious person on Waterloo Street. Officers attended and located the male on Goderich Street walking on the road. The 40 year old male was arrested for Public Intoxication and held in custody until sober.
07 Feb 2014,
Police investigated a two vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Waterloo and Gustavus Streets. There were no injuries. One of the drivers was charged with Fail to Yield, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
A motor vehicle accident that occurred on Summerhill Road was reported to police. A vehicle reversing from a private drive struck another vehicle which was driving westbound on Summerhill Road. One of the drivers was charged with Fail to Yield from Driveway, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
At approximately 3:00pm, police responded to a sudden death on Copway Street in Southampton. A 59 year old male was found deceased inside the residence. Officers were at the scene on February 7th and 8th investigating the incident. Foul play is not suspected.
At approximately 8:30pm, police received a report of an intoxicated person on Goderich Street in Port Elgin. Police attended and located a 51 year old female in the area. Officers were concerned that she was unable to care for herself so she was taken into custody under the Liquor Licence Act and held until sober.
08 Feb 2014,
At approximately 1:40am, an officer on patrol observed a male walking on the roadway on Goderich Street. The male was staggering and falling and stated he was walking to Southampton. The 33 year old was taken into custody under the Liquor Licence Act. While being searched he was found to be in possession of marihuana. He has been charged under the Liquor Licence Act and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
At 2:30pm, police responded to an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the Walmart parking lot. The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance. Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle did not notice the victim, who was bent over picking something up. The vehicle bumped the victim, knocking her to the ground and then drove over her legs. The victim was very fortunate and was later released from hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. The accident occurred near the front doors of the store. It is still under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Saugeen Shores Police Service.
