(PERTH COUNTY, ON) -The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) encourages and supports residents to purge those medicine cabinets of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs. They are excited to participate in this year’s Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day, which is proudly supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Government of Ontario, and Public Safety Canada.
The initiative is aimed to reduce access and availability of prescription medications to those who should not have them. When expired and unused prescription medication is left unattended, it can lead to prescription drug abuse.
“For the past few years, this annual prescription drug drop off day has generated much awareness in our communities in regards to the dangers associated with unused prescription medications accessible to children, teens or other adults. This has prompted many of us to make a greater effort to take prescription drugs back to pharmacies or to utilize the annual drug drop off day. These disposal opportunities are a great way to get rid of your medications in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.”
The Perth County OPP will be hosting collection locations on Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day on Saturday, May 09, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the following locations;
– St.Mary’s at the St.Mary’s Fire Hall – 172 James St. S.
– North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel, at 330 Wallace Ave North.
(Drop off location is at the rear of the North Perth Municipal Building).
– In Mitchell at the West Perth Fire Hall, 169 St. David St.
This is the only Prescription Drug Drop-Off program that the Perth County OPP is participating in this year, but the public is reminded that they can drop off unused, expired or unwanted medications to any pharmacy at any time.
