Possible Fraudsters

(Huron County, ON) – On June 17, 2010 at approximately 12:15 pm Middlesex OPP received a report of two suspicious males in a white pick up truck, offering asphalt paving services. The truck had a construction business sign on the side of the truck.

One of the occupants is described as a Caucasian male. The second is described as:

o Caucasian male
o Mid 20’s
o Brown hair
o British accent

To prevent fraud, the OPP suggests the following:

1) Always get at least 3 quotes on any project around the house, regardless of the service or product being purchased/sold.

2) Never sign a contract without checking the credibility of the company or person selling the product or service. This may include requesting business cards, observing appropriate uniforms/equipment and contacting references/the Better Business Bureau.

3) Elderly persons or those with little business experience should never sign a contract without running it by a trusted family member, friend or neighbour. Use caution in providing a deposit and only pay the total amount after complete and satisfactory services have been rendered.

4) Never fully open or unlock your door to anyone you don’t know. Talk through a locked or secure door if you don’t know their identity. If you don’t want them at your door, tell them to “go away.” If they don’t, call police.

5) Report suspicious persons or activity to police immediately.
