(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On the 23rd of August 2016 around 6:00p.m. Elgin County OPP was called to Little Beach in Port Stanley, ON for a possible drowning/missing female party.
The female party was originally swimming with her dog off of the rocks at Little Beach. At one point the dog returned to the group of friends without the female party. This made her friends search for her and call police.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Trenton, ON was activated.
Eventually the female was located approximately 30 minutes later and stated that she was “sleeping.” Officers at the scene were able to determine that the female had passed out on the rocks as alcohol was involved.
Elgin County OPP would like to remind people when visiting Port Stanley to do so safely.
“This is yet another example of people not respecting Lake Erie. The message has been very clear. If you choose to swim in Lake Erie, do so safely. This includes the buddy system, wearing a personal flotation device if you’re not comfortable swimming, not consuming alcohol, the list goes on. It has been a tragic summer with 6 people drowning in Lake Erie this summer. One of which was right here in Port Stanley.” The vast majority of people are great and do respect the Lake.
