Police Warning to Motorists

PERTH COUNTY OPP WARNING TO MOTORISTS THIS FINAL HOLIDAY WEEKEND OF THE SUMMER 2012-08-28

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) Summer vacation time has almost come to an end with one weekend left to enjoy Ontario’s outdoors. This Labour Day weekend promises to be a busy long weekend on Perth County roads. Long weekends in the county tend to see increased traffic volumes as people are travelling to and from vacation destinations.

This summer perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have placed much emphasis on patrolling traffic corridors used by holiday travellers as they pass through the area. With this final upcoming weekend, dedicated traffic patrols on Perth Lines 86, 72, 55, 44 and 20 will be continuing. This summer these patrols have resulted in large numbers of speeding, stunt driving, distracted driving and other charges being laid on these roadways. Additional officers will be on patrol looking for offending motorists especially as it pertains to high risk behaviour such as aggressive driving, impaired driving, lack of occupant restraint and distracted driving.

During last summers Labour Day weekend, Perth County OPP officers intense patrols resulted in nineteen R.I.D.E. programs being conducted throughout the county, two impaired drivers arrested, two racing charges processed, twenty tickets issued for liquor licence act violations and numerous speeding and distracted driving charges being laid.

In response to this being the final vacation fling of the summer, Inspector Steve Porter of the Perth County OPP said I am ensuring that my officers will be out in the county this weekend to actively enforce the laws that are put in place to keep our families safe”. “Our own ‘Stop and Look Campaign’ will also continue throught the weekend
