Police Vehicle Collision Update – Citizen Charged

(LUCAN BIDDULPH, ON) – On March 28, 2016, at approximately 12:56 p.m., a Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) vehicle was involved in a two vehicle collision on Main Street, near Water Street. The Lucan Biddulph Fire Department and the Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assisted at the scene.

The marked police vehicle, a black and white Ford car, was travelling northbound on Main Street in the southbound lane, passing northbound traffic. Emergency equipment was not activated. A vehicle travelling in the northbound lane, an orange Jeep sport utility vehicle (SUV), turned towards Water Street, and entered the southbound lane in front of the police vehicle.

The police vehicle collided with the SUV in the southbound lane of Main Street, and then left the roadway, where it struck a vacant porch at a residence on the north side of Main Street, near Water Street. The property damage estimate is yet to be determined.

The driver of the Jeep, a 53-year-old female, Christine ANDERSEN, from North Middlesex, Ontario, was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and discharged. She has been charged with turn not in safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The officer was assessed by EMS at the scene for non-life threatening injuries, and was released.
