(TOWNSHIP OF CHATSWORTH, ON) – On November 30, 2016 at approximately 9:13 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle rollover on Hwy. 6 & 10, a few hundred metres south of the Chatsworth OPP Detachment, in the Township of Chatsworth. The lone driver of the vehicle, a 2009 Dodge Caravan, was observed walking away from the collision scene, heading southbound on Hwy. 6 & 10.
The driver, who was not injured, was found to be disqualified from driving. He was arrested and transported to the Chatsworth Detachment. The male was extremely agitated and combative with officers. A conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed in an effort to subdue him. He was transported, via ambulance, to hospital for assessment, where he continued to be combative.
An officer suffered an injury to his hand requiring medical attention at the hospital.
The driver of the van, a 31-year old male from Saugeen First Nations, is facing multiple charges: Driving While Disqualified, Resist Peace Officer; Assault a Peace Officer; Theft of a Motor Vehicle; and Drive Under Suspension (x4).
The investigation is ongoing.
