On Thursday April 7, 2016 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Waterloo Regional Police responded to Wilfrid Laurier University for a complaint of an unidentified male who called in and advised the dispatcher that he had a female held hostage and was assaulting her. Police conducted an investigation attempting to locate the identified male with negative results. It was found through investigation that this is an ongoing occurrence throughout North America with the same phone number being used. Police believe that this incident is a Hoax, but will continue to investigate this incident. The Waterloo Regional Police Intelligence Unit will continue the investigation.
