On Sunday, August 23, 2015, at 1:50 p.m., police received a call as a result of two (2) dogs in distress within a vehicle, parked in the Walmart parking, located on Bayfield Street, City of Barrie.
Upon arrival officers quickly gained access inside the vehicle, and both dogs were rescued and turned over to the Ontario SPCA. The owner of the animals has been charged.
Police are reminding pet owners not to leave animals inside a parked vehicle. Temperatures can rapidly increase within a vehicle in a very short period of time.
Cruelty to animals is a criminal offence, and persons charged may face a maximum of five (5) years in prison or a fine not exceeding $10,000.

Barrie Police Officers assisted a Barrie family in locating their 14 year old son yesterday, Thursday August 20th, 2015. The 14 year old boy has Autism and shortly after 8:00 pm he went outside to play.
The boy lost his way in an area that he was unfamiliar with and officers located him not far from home just before 9:00 pm. The boy was fine and returned home to his parents.
The community is reminded that Barrie Police Service has a Vulnerable Person Registry. The Vulnerable Person Registry (VPR) is a service in Barrie that allows caregivers of vulnerable persons to submit vital information to a database that will be used by police and other emergency services during a crisis situation.
Examples of Vulnerable Persons may include Persons with:
Alzheimer’s Disease
Autism Spectrum Disorder
an Acquired Brain Injury
a Mental Health condition that causes a person to exhibit the behaviours above
In the event of an emergency responding officers, and other responding emergency services workers, will have immediate access to this registry. This can help provide vital information in a timely manner and reduces the likelihood that critical information is not overlooked.

An officer on routine patrol stopped a motorist leaving a south end entertainment establishment in the area of Big Bay Point Road. As a result of investigation, the driver was ask to provide a suitable sample of breath into an approved roadside screening device. The reading returned in the Warn range and the driver was subsequently issued a 3 day driving suspension.

A patrol Sgt. assigned to Barrie’s downtown core investigated a motorist in the area of Fred Grant Square at approximately 3:30am. As a result of that investigation, the motorist was asked to provide a sample of breath into an approved roadside screening device. The reading returned in the Warn range and the driver was subsequently issue a 3 day driving suspension. The motor vehicle was towed.
