(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been receiving reports of drivers failing to stop for a loading/unloading school bus. The areas of concern reported to police most recently are bus stops along Bruce County Road 20 and stops around the village of Tiverton. The offence of failing to stop for a school bus carries a fine of $490 and 6 demerit points.
With full day kindergarten programs being offered, students as young as 4 years old can travel to and from school on a bus. These young students depend on adults to keep them safe. Failing to stop for a school bus carries a stiff penalty, but the consequences can be far greater if a small child is hit by a vehicle.
The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
