On Wednesday September 28th, 2016, just shortly after 1:30pm, Hamilton Police HEAT officers with the assistance of other police resources including; the Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit and Niagara Regional Police Emergency Task Unit executed Criminal Code Search Warrants at two homes on East 23rd Street.
Hamilton Police had recently received information about suspected drug traffickers dealing drugs in and around the neighbourhood. As a result of the investigation that was prompted, search warrants were authorized by the courts to search the homes and property as part of the investigation into the suspected criminal activity.
As a result of the warrants being executed, eight (8) individuals were arrested. Police seized a large quantity of cocaine, marihuana, ammunition, stolen property, and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking as well cash suspected of being proceeds of crime obtained from the sale of drugs.
The following evidence was seized:
Over 600 grams of marihuana with an estimated street value of $12,000
Over 170 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $17,000
Over $11,000 in cash (proceeds of crime)
Over 30 Oxycodone tablets with an estimated value of $200
Several marihuana plants with an estimated value of $6000
Ammunition and other weapons
Various items of suspected stolen property
Other evidence including mobile phones, scales and packaging used for the sale illegal drugs
Police have opposed bail and charged the following individuals with a number of criminal offences as part of this investigation:
Simoon ISHAK – 25 year old man from Hamilton Ontario
Rawan BAKIR -28 year old woman from Hamilton Ontario
Vicky CHARETTE – 38 year old woman from Hamilton Ontario
Jerome CONTE – 21 year old man from Hamilton Ontario
Darrell ELLIS – 25 year old man from Hamilton Ontario
Ashoor ORAHA – 56 year old man from Hamilton Ontario
Carl SWABY – 45 year old man from Hamilton Ontario
Leroy WHITE – 71 year old man from Hamilton Ontario
The following charges were laid as a result of this investigation:
Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
Possession for the purpose of trafficking marihuana
Possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone
Production of marihuana
Proceeds of crime – over $5000
Possession of stolen property
Possession of ammunition while prohibited
