Police Looking to Identify Suspicious Man in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspicious man.

Yesterday afternoon, an 8-year-old boy was walking in the area of Delaware Avenue between 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. when an older man in a grey 4 door van or car asked him if he wanted a ride. The boy said no and the driver continued south on Delaware Avenue. The vehicle was last seen turning west onto Forest Street. At no point did the man exit his vehicle. The boy was not threatened or physically injured.

The vehicle had dark tinted windows. The driver lowered his window only halfway, therefore not exposing his face very much. Officers flooded the area, however did not locate any vehicle matching this description.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to encourage parents to take the time to talk to their children about what to do should they approached by a stranger.

Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or male driver is asked to contact Constable Derek Shaw at 519-436-6600 extension #87110. Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
