Police Looking to Identify Suspicious Male in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for the public’s help in identifying a suspicious male yesterday in Chatham.

Just before 4:00 p.m. two young boys, ages 7 and 9, were playing outside in the area of Raleigh Street and Wellington Street when a man approached them riding a bicycle. The man did not say anything to the boys as he came within a meter of them and made a grabbing type motion for their arms. The man did not make contact with either boy and he rode away on his bicycle. The man was last seen southbound on Raleigh Street. Neither boy was physically injured. The boys immediately returned home and reported the incident to their parents. As police were notified, officers flooded the area however the man was not located.

The man is described as: dark skinned, approximately 40-50 years, short gray hair, wearing blue jeans, black leather coat and gray winter hat.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this man is asked to contact Constable Wayne Plaquet at 519-436-6600 extension #87040 or 519-436-6600 extension #222.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to encourage parents to talk to their children about ‘Stranger Danger’. Please ensure children know what to do in the event that they are approached by a person who is unknown to them.
