Around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 20th, 2015 the Owen Sound Police received reports of an erratic driver who had just side swiped another vehicle in the area of 9th Avenue and 10th Street East. This black Subaru continued on without stopping and was observed being driven down 10th Street East hill on the wrong side of the roadway, in the eastbound lanes. The driver made his way to the Georgian Shores Marina located off of 24th Street West, at which time the 50 year old male, lone occupant of the vehicle, proceeded to drive dangerously throughout the parking lot before finally coming to a stop. Quick acting marina staff approached the vehicle, removed the keys from the ignition until police were able to arrive on scene.
It is believed that this is the same vehicle that had been seen in the Town of Durham that had almost caused a head on collision. Another witness advised police that they observed a similar vehicle as it passed them on highway 6 and 10 travelling northbound towards Owen Sound at an extremely high rate of speed.
The driver of this vehicle was taken into custody by police without incident. Alcohol and drugs were not factors in this incident. Concerned for the drivers mental health officers escorted the man to the Grey Bruce Health Service. Charges remain pending at this time. Fortunately no one was injured in this incident.
