Police investigating string of residential break-enter-thefts-UPDATE

Waterloo Region, Ontario – As an update to a media release sent on November 7, 2013, Waterloo Regional Police General Investigations Detectives have arrested and charged a male Kitchener teen in connection with numerous incidents of property crime.
The teen was arrested at a Kitchener residence over the noon hour on December 8, 2013. A search warrant executed at the same location has resulted in the seizure of items believe to be connected to break and enter offences.
The teen currently remains in custody pending a court appearance charged with Theft, two counts of Break Enter and Commit and three counts of Attempted Break and Enters. Further charges are anticipated.
During October and November 2013, police began receiving numerous reports of break, enter and thefts in several Kitchener neighborhoods. Many of the incidents occurred at night and in some cases the intruder entered while the occupants were sleeping. All of the entries were through unlocked doors.
Police continue to remind the public to:

ensure that the doors and windows of their homes and vehicles are locked and that valuables are removed from plain sight.

be vigilant about any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods

call police promptly using 9-1-1 should they become aware of a crime in progress or potential criminal activity.
