Police Investigating Death Of Goderich Man

(TOBERMORY, ON) – On May 22, 2016 at 10:07 a.m., the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Canadian Coast Guard, Parks Canada, Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department and the Bruce County Emergency Medical Services; attended the Fathom Five National Marine Park in Northern Bruce Peninsula to conduct a death investigation.

The victim was one of eight scuba divers on a diving expedition to the Arabia off of Echo Island, within Fathom Five National Marine Park in Georgian Bay. He had entered the water and showed no signs of distress. Shortly afterwards he was observed in medical distress and was assisted by fellow divers. The Canadian Coast Guard responded and brought him to shore for further medical attention.

Attempts to resuscitate the victim continued until such time he was pronounced deceased by the Coroner.

The deceased had been identified as Peter LANE, age 67, of Goderich, Ontario.

A post-mortem exam was completed resulting with the deceased having died of natural causes.

The Ministry of Labour was advised of the investigation.
