Brampton – Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have made an arrest in an incident that occurred in the parking lot of 22 Division involving a stolen vehicle and dangerous driving where police fired a single shot at the driver.
On October 28, 2016, at approximately 9:20 pm, 22 Division uniformed officers investigated a vehicle parked in 22 Division parking lot located at 7750 Hurontario Street in the City of Brampton. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen and when approached by officers, the accused drove towards officers and police discharged a single round at the driver of the vehicle. The vehicle fled the parking lot and officers pursued for a short period before discontinuing the pursuit due to public safety concerns.
On October 29th, 2016, police located the accused vehicle, a 2016 white Dodge Durango on a pedestrian walkway in the area of the Meadowvale Town Centre in the City of Mississauga. The vehicle had been set on fire.
On October 30, 2016, Umair BUTT, a 28 year old male from the City of Mississauga was arrested and charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Arson and Flight from Police. Umair BUTT was held for a bail hearing on October 31, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. Police confirmed at the time of the arrest that the accused was not struck by the bullet fired by police.
