(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) On Tuesday March 20, 2012 around 2:30 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol observed three youths walking along Hwy 7 between Stratford and St.Marys.
The youths who were untruthful with police, were apprehended under the authority of the provincial Child and Family Services Act as they appeared to be less than sixteen years of age.
Further investigation revealed that the two males and the one female were actually fifteen and fourteen years of age. The youths were Stratford residents and one was found to be officially reported missing while the other two were also missing from home. The parents were contacted and the youths were returned.
With the arrival of the warmer weather and daylight savings time more young people are spending time outdoors. As much as children and youth are urged to spend time away from computer terminals they need to be aware that the Perth County OPP will again be enforcing the provincial curfew. This curfew states; if children under the age of 16 are found in a public place or in a place of public entertainment between midnight and 6 a.m. without an authorized responsible adult they will be picked up by police.
Parents, the onus is on you to know where your children are at all times, and if they are staying with friends, be sure this is communicated between parents so you know this to be the case.
