Police determine identity of human remains recovered in Cambridge

Waterloo Region, ON – Waterloo Regional Police Homicide Detectives investigating the discovery of human remains in the Grand River near the downtown Galt section of Cambridge, have identified the deceased as Tasha Marie Smith.
Her remains were discovered by a person fishing around 8pm on July 18, 2014. Emergency services responded and a recovery process and search of the area was conducted. Members of the Niagara Regional Police Service Dive Team provided assistance.
The remains of Tasha Smith were transported to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for a post mortem examination.
There is no evidence at this time that foul play was involved in her death.
Tasha Marie was last seen on December 1, 2010 at her Cambridge residence and has been missing since. She was 28 years old at the time of her disappearance.
Homicide investigators in partnership with the Coroner’s office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Tasha Smith’s death and are appealing to the community for assistance. She had contacts in downtown Kitchener and sometimes used the names Punx and Corey.
