The Owen Sound Police Service continues to investigate a fire that occurred overnight on July 22, 2013, at 517 3rd Avenue East and the unexplained purpose behind it. The duplex style residence is occupied by the family-related Lewis and Miller families. Police had investigated a similar incident that occurred at the same residence the previous night, only it caused much less serious damage than the most recent incident. On Tuesday (July 22nd), the scene was examined by an investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshalls Office and a Forensic Identification Officer from the Owen Sound Police service, who obtained evidence from the scene for forensic examination. It is believed that these fires were deliberately set for an undetermined reason.
The occupants of the residence are relatively new to the area and know of no reason why their residence would be targeted. The residents are concerned that perhaps the culprit(s) have targeted their residence by mistake. Police are appealing to the public for any information they may have relating to these two incidents or persons that may have been in the area of the incidents during the early morning hours of Monday or Tuesday of this week.
The Owen Sound Police Services asks that anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Branch at (519) 376 – 1234 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
