(Central Huron, ON) On October 23, 2009 at approximately 11:30 pm Huron OPP officers were dispatched to an alarm call at the Clinton Pharmacy. Upon arrival police were met by the keyholder who updated officers that there was a hole in the rear door of the building and they had heard a loud whistle when they pulled on scene. When police opened the door to the pharmacy, they immediately heard a loud crash from someone fleeing out the back of the building. Officers gave chase and were updated by the keyholder that a male was running towards the centre of town. Police followed to an Albert Street apartment complex. The suspect threw away his backpack and it was retrieved. The male was then observed on a roof and when police finally gained access to the roof the suspect was no longer there. There was a lone apartment that faced onto the roof and officers made contact with the occupant. After gaining consent to search the apartment, officers located the suspect inside. He was arrested on scene. The backpack was confirmed to contain several bottles of narcotics. The identity of the suspect was confirmed through video surveillance.
An 18 year old Clinton male remains in custody pending a bail hearing in Goderich Court on October 26, 2009. He is facing one count of Break & Enter and one count of Breach Probation.
