Playing On Thin Ice

(ST.MARYS, ON) On Saturday, January 29, 2011, shortly after 3 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to the Church Street Bridge in St.Marys where a concerned citizen had observed two young boys playing under the bridge on the partially frozen Trout Creek.

Police located a 13 and 14 year old boy playing on thin ice. The boys were taken to their homes where the dangerous actions they were involved in were explained to them and their families.

Parents are urged to speak to their children about the dangers of playing on the local creeks and rivers. Ice does not freeze at a uniform thickness and it can be especially thin under bridges as was observed in St.Marys.
