(PUSLINCH TWP, ON) – On Thursday October 25, 2012 at approximately 2:26pm County of Wellington OPP officers received several calls regarding a plane crash near a residence on Concession 1 and Townline Road, Puslinch Township. Firefighters from Cambridge and Puslinch Fire Departments responded as well as Cambridge EMS.
Officers found that a floater plane had crashed into some trees and a hydro line close to the lake and a residence. There were two male occupants on board the aircraft at the time of the impact. One male was transported to Cambridge Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and a second male succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The deceased male is identified as Russell Hawkins aged 47 of Guelph.
Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board and the Ministry of Environment, and the Coroner’s Office – Dr. McPhee were notified and on scene. Members of the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit, Traffic Management Unit and West Region OPP Technical Identification Services Unit were also in attendance to assist in the investigation. Hydro One and Bell were also at the scene.
The investigation is continuing. Police are asking if anyone witnessed the collision and have not yet spoken to police to please call Constable Sturgeon at the Wellington County OPP – Rockwood Operation Centre at 519-856-1506 or the Wellington County Crime Unit at 519-846-5930.
