Three men have been found guilty of several offences in connection with a juvenile human trafficking investigation.
A jury found Jerimiah WASHINGTON, 25, from the City of Brampton, guilty of Trafficking a Person Under 18 Years Old, Procuring and Sexual Interference. On December 12, 2016, his Honour Judge Hugh O’Connell of the Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket, sentenced Mr. Washington to seven years in jail.
Following a preliminary hearing on March 8, 2016, Rohan WEBSTER, 22, from the City of Toronto pleaded guilty to Attempting to Live on the Avails of a Juvenile, Procuring a Person to Become a Prostitute, Exercise Direction and Control and Luring a Child. Mr. Webster was sentenced to four years in jail.
Following a preliminary hearing on February 22, 2016, Jerrome SWABY, 24, from the City of Mississauga pleaded guilty to Attempting to Live on the Avails of a Juvenile, Procuring a Person to Become a Prostitute, Exercise Direction and Control. Mr. Swaby was sentenced to 4 years in jail.
All three of these men were arrested in February 2014 as part of the York Regional Police human trafficking strategy.
Individuals committing sexual acts for money are often victims of crime through violence, threats of violence, coercion and trickery.
