Occurrence #: BA15015807
Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2015 – 3:40pm
Barrie Police Service ICE (Internet Child Exploitation) Unit received a complaint from a parent who discovered inappropriate messages over a “social networking app” with her 13 year old child.
The police reviewed the messages and images contained within the chat and determined that two offences of Luring had occurred.
Police sought a court order for the suspect’s contact information and then obtained search warrant for a Holland Landing residence.
On the 13th of May 2015, Barrie I.C.E. and York Regional Police I.C.E. Unit executed the search warrant at the residence. A 21 year old male was arrested and transported to Barrie Police Service for further investigation. Computers were seized as part of the investigation. The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
The accused faces 2 counts of Luring involving make available sexual explicit material to a child and make child pornography.
The evidence known thus far in the investigation does not indicated that other persons have been lured in the same fashion.
The investigation will now require an examination of computers seized to provide further insight into the suspect activities on-line. The examination will occur at York Regional Police Service Technology Crime Unit.
Barrie Police ICE and York Regional Police ICE unit are partners within Ontario’s “Provincial Strategy” to protect children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the internet. This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
