(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The results for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Civic Day Long Weekend traffic initiative which ran from July 31 – August 3, 2015, are in for Perth County as well as all other areas of the province.
Although we have seen tragedies in some areas of the province, Perth County has been fortunate to avoid any major incidents. The Perth County OPP only investigated 3 minor property damage collisions on Perth County roads. (Two of these collisions were due to some extreme weather).
Perth County OPP officers, in addition to increased calls for service on the holiday weekend were able to focus their remaining time conducting traffic education and enforcement.
The following are some Perth County OPP traffic statistics:
– 15 Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) programs were conducted.
– 1 Driver was charged for “over 80”
– 5 Motorists were charged with, fail to move over-emergency vehicle.
– 168 Speeding charges were issued
– 3 Racing charges (50 km over the posted speed limit)
– 2 Seatbelt charges
– 3 Distracted driving charges
– 13 Moving violations
– 24 Other Highway Traffic Act charges
– 6 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges
“Our officers worked extremely hard over this Civic Holiday Weekend as the numbers indicate. By concentrating on locations where we have identified traffic issues in the past, especially on long weekends, our officers conducted “targeted patrols”. One area where they concentrated their time was along the Perth County corridors heavily travelled by cottage and beach users. We will continue this strategy throughout the summer in an attempt to keep Perth County roads as safe as possible.” Inspector Steve Porter Perth County OPP
