(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Perth County has charged 6 motorists with “racing” within the span of a week. The most recent one was charged before 6 a.m. this morning.
Shortly before 6 a.m. on Wednesday July 08, 2015, a Perth County OPP officer was conducting patrols along Perth Line 44 west of Road 125 (west of Gads Hill), when a fast moving eastbound car was observed. The officer activated the police radar and locked the Ford 500 sedan’s speed on the police radar at 133 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
Cindy REID (50) of The Municipality of Huron East was pulled over, and was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. She is to appear at Stratford Court on August 11, 2015, to answer to the charge.
This driver is one of 6 who have had their driver’s licences suspended for seven days. And their vehicles towed from the scene and impounded for a week.
“Drivers need to understand the ramifications of their actions when getting behind the wheel. The excessive, unacceptable speeds places all road users lives in danger. These violators have all lost their driving privileges for seven days, and as well as having their vehicles impounded they will have to appear in court, pay numerous fees and fines, face demerit points, and most likely deal with substantial increases in insurance costs. I urge motorists to drive safely as well as courteously, and obey the speed limits and rules of the road.” Staff Sergeant Joel Skelding Perth County OPP.
