(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The 2016 Easter Weekend proved to be a busy one for Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers.
The inclement weather over the weekend resulted in over 90 calls for service that were directly related to the ice, wind and rain. Officers were called to large numbers of downed hydro lines and tree limbs, as well as many alarm calls and a weather related collision.
Generally, the Easter Long Weekend is a busy time for Perth County officers as they respond to more than the usual domestic and family disputes. Perth County roads also see more traffic as motorists make those first weekend road trips, or do a quick check on the cottage.
This weekend Perth County OPP officers responded to five minor collisions. This was the second year that there were low numbers of collisions. Prior to last year Perth County historically averaged 18 collisions per year over the Easter Long Weekend.
As they did last year, Perth County OPP officers stuck with the winning recipe” of being visible in high traffic and high collision locations.
Ironically officers issued 166 speeding tickets to drivers who decided to drive too fast on Perth County Roads. This is exactly the same number of speeding charges issued during last year’s Easter Weekend. This year however
