(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – From Friday June 24, 2016, until Sunday June 26, 2016, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers actively patrolled roads within the County. They conducted five Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) programs, stopping nearly 500 vehicles and checking their operators for sobriety.
On Saturday June 25, 2016, shortly after 1:30 p.m. an officer was conducting patrols along Perth Line 20 East of Fullarton when a fast moving black Mercedes was observed travelling westbound on Perth Line 20. The officer activated the police radar and locked in the vehicle’s speed. The speed was well in excess of 50 km/h above the posted 80 km/h posted speed limit. The vehicle was pulled over and 32-year-old male from Mississauga was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”. The male is to appear at Stratford Court on August 09, 2016 to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded for a week. The driver, his female passenger, and the 3 young children in the vehicle were given a ride into Stratford by police.
On Saturday June 25, 2016, around 5 p.m. an officer observed a vehicle travelling on Hwy 23 North of Monkton the driver was found to be using a radar detector. The 32-year-old Listowel male was charged with “drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device”, contrary to the highway traffic act of Ontario. He was issued a $170 ticket and his radar detector was seized.
On Sunday morning June 26, 2016, a vehicle was stopped on Road 140 East of Listowel. The male driver had been drinking alcohol. A 3 day driver’s licence suspension was served following a warn range result at the roadside. The 21 year old male driver from Mapleton Twp. was also charged with the Highway Traffic Act offence of “novice driver having consumed alcohol”. (Any driver under the age of 22 must have a zero blood alcohol level when driving). The violation of this condition results in a 30 day licence suspension.
On Sunday afternoon June 26, 2016, a vehicle was stopped at a RIDE program on Perth Line 55 West of Monkton and a driver was stopped who had been consuming alcohol. He registered a “warn” on the roadside screening device. He lost his driving privilege for 3 days. At the RIDE location a number of Liquor Licence Act offences were observed and vehicle occupants were charged accordingly.
