Perth County Outdoor Fire Ban – Multiple Fires

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) On Saturday July 14, 2012, shortly after 11 p.m., Perth County OPP officers and the St.Marys fire department were dispatched to a Sports Utility Vehicle along Perth Line 9 east of St.Marys.

It was determined that the 2010 Jeep was being driven through a field when it became stuck in a shallow ditch. The driver attempted to rock the vehicle out of the ditch but was unsuccessful. The Jeep’s occupants started walking towards a nearby farmhouse when they observed a grass fire beneath the Jeep. Due to the dry conditions, the fire quickly spread and engulfed the vehicle. The fire department was able to contain the grass fire but was unable to save the Jeep.

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday July 14, 2012 around 3 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer on patrol observed thick black smoke from an outdoor fire along Line 81 south east of Listowel.

The officer rushed to the scene and observed 4 meter high flames from a fire on a private property. The North Perth Fire Department was contacted and a crew from the Atwood station safely extinguished the fire. The North Perth Fire Department is assessing whether charges will be laid.

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday July 14, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer observed a small campfire in the backyard of a residence along Elizabeth St. East in Listowel.

The officer spoke to the resident and explained the fire ban. The fire was immediately extinguished.

All Perth County residents are reminded to obey the “Perth County Outdoor Fire Ban” which has been in effect from July 06, 2012. Conditions remain extremely dry and thus, all open air fires are prohibited. This includes bonfires, campfires, burn barrels, outdoor fireplaces/chimneas or any other fires set in open air.
