(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police was actively patrolling Perth County Roads during the Labour Day Weekend.
During the weekend only five minor collisions occurred with no serious injuries reported in the County. Officers did however issue over 101 speeding tickets to drivers who felt the need to drive well in excess of the speed limit.
One driver a 19 year old male from the Municipality of West Perth operated his Honda Civic on Line 36 west of Stratford at 122 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone. This resulted in his vehicle being impounded for a week and his driver’s licence being suspended for seven days. He has also been issued a summons to appear in court to answer to the charge of “race a motor vehicleâ€Â.
Perth County officers also charged four motorists with distracted driving offences, nine with hazardous moving violations and ten others with other Highway Traffic offences. In addition, a large number of Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs were conducted throughout the county.
The Perth County OPP will continue to target distracted, impaired, speeding, aggressive and suspended drivers. Citizens are urged to contact police immediately if they witness or suspect an impaired driver. The OPP can be reached anytime anywhere within the Province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122.
