(PUSLINCH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On July 5, 2015 at approximately 12:32 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police observed a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro on the shoulder of Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch Township with a male standing behind it urinating. The vehicle’s engine was running and there was evidence at the scene that it had just been involved in a collision which caused damage to the front corner and tire.
Police spoke to the male and determined that he was in care or control of the motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. The male was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing where he refused to provide suitable breath samples.
Further investigation revealed that a concerned citizen observed the male getting into his vehicle in Cambridge and notified Waterloo Regional Police of a possible impaired driver.
The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
Shane SMITH age 42 of Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with Fail/Refuse to Provide Breath Sample and Care or Control of Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 17, 2015 to answer to his charges.
