On October 2, 2013 at 6:45 p.m., the Guelph Police attended to the MacDonell Street area for a pedestrian struck collision. Investigation alleges that a 73-year-old male was walking northbound in the downtown area, crossing from the south side of MacDonell Street toward the north side. He was crossing the street on a green traffic signal. Concurrently a City of Guelph transit bus driven by 58-year-old Guelph male was leaving the transit hub. The bus entered MacDonell Street from the south side and initiated a left turn to travel westbound. The bus was facing the same green traffic signal, as was the pedestrian. The pedestrian was approximately at the center line of MacDonell Street when he was struck by the left side of the bus during its turning movement, knocking him to the ground.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the transit bus has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
